About me

My name is Jayshree Surage, and I am a certified Yoga Therapist and graduate of Maryland University Integrative Health. I have a B.S. in Biological Sciences specializing in Neurobiology and Physiology. With a passion for research, education, and supporting individuals using integrative practices, I deeply value Eastern and Western practices of healing. I find peace in bridging the gap in understanding between the two traditions for both patients/clients and health care providers.

In June of 2020, I co-founded GroundRoots Healing which is a collective of change agents committed to building a community rooted in connection and healing. We were founded by four Women of Color that came together in the spirit of solidarity during a time of profound violence in our community, society, and government systems to imagine and create a new way. As a collective and an individual we seek to empower the voices of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and offer tools for inner resilience including centering, connection, breath, and radical compassion to confront the deep wounds of injustice and remember our shared humanity.

Mission

As a Yoga Therapist, my mission is to create safe, supportive, and inclusive spaces for individuals to explore the deeper layers of their being through the practice of yoga in hopes of supporting mental, physical, and spiritual health and well-being. My approach includes an integrative and therapeutic intention to support individuals towards a more balanced and sustainable state as well as any other preexisting modalities or health care regimens that are currently in practice. Ultimately, my goal is to support and guide individuals towards their truth, wisdom, and knowledge within.

I have known Jayshree for many years in several capacities: first as two yoga students in class practicing side by side, frequently as a student in her class, and now in a professional capacity as she teaches at my studio, for our teacher training and collaborates with and educates us through her own organization, Ground Roots Healing.

Jayshree is a compassionate and thoughtful yoga teacher who has the beautiful ability to connect with her students as well as connect her students on a deep level to the practice. This takes after her own dedication to the practice is inspiring, as she’s always expanding her yoga studies, currently moving toward becoming a yoga therapist.

Being a studio owner, I am elated and honored to have Jayshree as part of our yoga community, as an instructor, as an educator, and as a huge support to our student base, myself and our community.

— Brenda N.

"Jayshree is an incredible yoga instructor who teaches a variety of styles, allowing each participant to find their niche within the practice. Her spirit is welcoming and calm, helping all to feel comfortable, seen, and heard. Hands down one of my favorite yoga teachers- and I'm also an instructor."

— Salena J.

Jayshree’s yin yoga classes are magical. As she guides you from pose to pose, she shares her vast knowledge of the human body, deepening your understanding and awareness. She has a quiet, powerful way of guiding you to deep peace and release.
